Our Tradition of Providing Quality Care

After proudly serving our country in the US Navy during World War II, Dr. W.D. Heaston knew he wanted to continue serving people. He learned that through the GI bill, he could obtain an education in the health care profession. He chose optometry and our tradition of providing quality care was born.

Upon graduation from the Northern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Heaston accepted a position at Binyon Eye Care in Seattle. Initially providing care in Seattle, in 1950, he transferred to the Richland office of Binyon Eye Care. Anxious to start his own practice, Dr. Heaston established the Heaston Vision Clinic in 1952 on George Washington Way in Richland.

Dr. Heaston was the first of three Heaston generations to achieve Fellowship in the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. He is also a member of the American Optometric Association and the Optometric Physicians of Washington. After appointed by the Governor of Washington State, Dr. Heaston served eight years on the Washington State Board of Optometry.

Now retired, Dr. Heaston’s genuine care and interest in his patients continues as the primary foundation of our practice.

Continuing the Tradition

Joining the Heaston Vision Clinic in 1976, Dr. Dale Heaston continued the tradition to preserve and uphold our standard of genuine patient care.

Ready to broaden the standard of patient care with innovative technology and a determined mindset, Dr. Dale invited Dr. Trent Thompson to join the Heaston Vision Clinic in 2002. Shortly thereafter, and continuing in family tradition, Dr. Dale’s first daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Heaston Thompson, would join the clinic in 2003 with emphasis on Vision Therapy. The Heaston Vision Clinic legacy continued in 2006, when Dr. Dale’s second daughter, Dr. Karen Heaston, became an additional staple in the standard of patient care at the clinic.

With almost a decade of defying expectations (and an update to the clinic name), the Heaston and Thompson Vision Clinic welcomed Dr. Daniel Plesha in 2014.

From 1952 to today, the Heaston and Thompson Vision Clinic has welcomed patients from all walks of life and continues to improve efforts towards Dr. Heaston’s primary foundation of our practice.
